What if superman was raised by the waynes
Aug 30, JB rated it really liked it Shelves: my-dc-collection. This is why I love Elseworld stories. This means the Waynes never have Bruce the Bruce Wayne we now at least.
The events of that fateful night were the seed for the Batman gets plante This is why I love Elseworld stories. The events of that fateful night were the seed for the Batman gets planted and the actual night were the Batman gets born, do happen, though with some differences from the original events.
I really like the art! And love how they were able to successfully make Superman Batman. This Batman has similar crosses to bear as the Batman we all know, but different enough to make it fresh. This is just a great what if story. Shelves: comic-books-graphic-novels , batman , crime. It's a truly awesome concept, that's what I love most about this book!!! Thomas and Martha Wayne find him in Gotham City and raise him as their own. I love Eduardo Barreto's art! His layouts are amazing with It's a truly awesome concept, that's what I love most about this book!!!
His layouts are amazing with a style I can really appreciate and find inspiring! It was a great story too, very well written!. I kind of feel like they took small elements from the Batman movie dialogue, actions of characters, etc.
And I did not like the way they ended it, but I'll let that slide and still give it five stars cause it was awesome. DC should turn this into one of their animated films!!! Jan 26, Jon Nakapalau rated it it was amazing Shelves: crime , comics , favorites. Oh boy mr. Mar 21, Blindzider rated it really liked it Shelves: comics-graphicnovels. This is actually a reread for me. I purchased this way back when it came out. Recently someone recommended it to me so I dug it out of my boxes.
DeMatteis has always had a gift for getting into the heads of the characters, truly making the reader understand their motivations and how they are feeling. Primarily knowing him from his Spectacular Spider-Man run, this alternate take on the origin of Superman is filled with pathos as a young Kal El is found and raised by the Waynes. His journey throug This is actually a reread for me. His journey through the pain and guilt of their deaths is evident and their resolution sets him on the more well known path of Superman.
For a relatively short story, it packs a punch, and is imaginative and satisfying. Feb 22, Ryan Stewart rated it really liked it. What if the Waynes found the crashed Kryptonian pod instead of the Kents? What if Clark Kent was Bruce Wayne instead and still stood helplessly by as his earth parents were slaughtered? What if Superman What if Lex Luthor fell victim to an accident and became the Joker?
This is one of those fun re-imaginings that made Elseworlds so much fun in the '90s. Not all of them were good in fact, most weren't but this one really is a gem. Jan 15, Timothy Boyd rated it liked it. A good mixing of the Batman and Superman stories. Good What if baby Clark's kryptonian ship was landed in Gotham city instead of Kansas and what if he was raised by wayne family instead of Kents?? That's the central theme explored in this book. Also it was surprising to see him becoming very brutal version of Batman who actually harms criminals with his heat vision and smashes things.
Then there was Lex luthor as fat joker which was so f 3. Then there was Lex luthor as fat joker which was so funny. However In final part this books drops down with Luis lane stuff which was too cheap that I didn't like much. Still it was a very nice and enjoyable elsewhere story that everyone should check once. What if Superman's ship landed in Gotham, not in Metropolis?
An amazing elseworlds story. Extremely underrated. Jan 13, Chris rated it liked it Shelves: superman , elseworld. Lois Lane Much like the theme from Superman Red Son I'm guessing as I have never read it, just know the idea behind it the idea here is what if the rocket carrying an infant Kal El hadn't landed in Metropolis?
What if it landed in Gotham? What if he became Batman? A familiar fate befalls Bruce's "How something as simple as a shifting wind current might have carried that rocket anywhere in the world". A familiar fate befalls Bruce's parents. This is where things start to differ.
To quote Lex Luthor "Metropolis is too shiny and clean. Too decent and kind. But here even the buildings reflect the rot of the human soul". This is an interesting look at what makes the man.
His nature, his surroundings, or a combination of the two. I won't give anything away about the outcome of this or the plot in general. The only thing I will say is, I feel this book could have been a lot better had the author delved deeper into both. This book is far too brief for a subject that and story that given another hundred plus pages could have been great.
Aug 28, Bryan Worra rated it it was ok. It tries to accomplish a great deal within its format as an elseworlds one-shot. This would have benefited greatly if the editors at the time had had the courage to support the project beyond the quick lip-service it was ultimately given. It would be good to one day revisit the premise and explore it in its full range and potential.
Jul 31, John Yelverton rated it really liked it. Very freaky graphic novel that definitely turns the whole Superman mythos on its head. May 30, Kurt Rocourt rated it it was amazing Shelves: dc-tpb. What would happen if Superman became Batman. That's the premise. It's dated now but the story still has something about it that's entertaining.
Nov 12, Karl rated it really liked it Shelves: comics-manga , one-sitting. Very good! A lot of reviews are saying this story could have been longer, and that's totally true. Exploring every nook and cranny of this Elseworld concept could have taken years and would probably have added some great stories to our shelves, but I don't mind the brevity. The next morning, Joe Chill the robber was found face down in an alley: Dead. Body burned almost beyond recognition. Next to him, they found Bruce, his eyes were wide and unseeing.
Covered in his parent's blood. For years after that Bruce would constantly repeat "The bullets. The bullets. The bullets He hated violence and death with all his soul. The images of murder making him go insane. One day, a group of robbers invaded his house. Bruce uses his powers to brutally attack the robbers, tearing them apart with his heat vision.
He decides there is much he can do with his powers. He takes up the identity of the Batman. Bruce also takes up a job as publisher at the "Planet" which was bought by Lexcorp.
One day, when Lois was kicked out of Lex's Limo and was about to be attacked by a group of thugs, the "Batman" steps in and breaks them apart, he burns their flesh, splinters their bones.
He was a dangerous psychopathic animal. After Lex Luthor supposedly died in a flood of chemicals and flames, he was reborn as the Joker. He kidnaps Lois and flies away with her. He reveals his plan to take over Gotham and begins his attack.
The Joker commands his mercenary army -- supplied with guns, grenades, fire-bombs and everything else Lexcorp money could buy. Their tragic death caused him to repress the knowledge of his abilities after he burned their murderer with his heat vision. He later remembered and created a costume to better use his powers as Batman , though he was turned away from his violent acts by reporter Lois Lane to eventually take on the Superman identity as Gotham City's bright protector.
Kal was eventually trained as a blacksmith which enabled him to transform the metal of his alien ship into a suit of armor that was worn by Baron Luthor along with an amulet made from kryptonite. Kal also crafted a sword that he used to later kill Baron Luthor which was later revealed to be the mythical sword Excalibur. Another small shift in the trajectory of Kal-El's escape from Krypton to Earth during the alternate reality Flashpoint event resulted in his rocket missing Smallville and landing in the middle of Metropolis, devastating the city.
The government found the infant Kal-El while they were investigating the wreckage and raised him as Subject One in an underground research facility where he was kept removed from sunlight. Barry Allen eventually rescued Subject Zero and he helped save his new friends at a crucial moment before the end of the Flashpoint universe. Kal-El's frequently altered origins resulted in a truly evil version of the character known as Overman from Earth whose rocket landed in Sudentland prior to the Nazi occupation of WWII, which allowed the Axis powers to win the war using reverse-engineered Kryptonian technology.
Ben Raab and Justiniano introduced new takes on DC's premiere superteam in 's JLA: Shogun of Steel , which followed Kal-El's rocket as it landed in 14th century feudal Japan where he was raised by a loving old man who found the rocket and believed the child was a gift from the stars. He was named Hoshi and eventually joined with other feudal versions of the League like Batgirl and Flash to take down an alternate but still evil version of Brainiac known as Lord Zunou, who was the titular steel shogun.
